A hearing screening consists of tones presented at 25dB at 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000Hz. If the patient does not respond at one or more of the frequencies it is recommended that they perform a Comprehensive Hearing Assessment.
Comprehensive Hearing Assessment
A comprehensive hearing assessment consists of a full hearing test, middle ear assessment and speech testing. A full hearing test consists of finding the threshold of hearing at 250, 500, 1000, 2000, 4000, and 8000Hz. A middle ear assessment consists of a visual inspection of the ear canal and ear drum, as well as tympanometry. Tympanometry is used to rule out many issues associated with medically correctable hearing loss. Speech testing reveals at what level of sound a person can understand speech optimally.
In Home Visit
An in home visit consists of the Doctor of Audiology coming to where you are located to perform any/or all the services provided.
Hearing Aid Consultation
A hearing aid consultation consists of a comprehensive hearing assessment with the addition of talking about solutions to specific hearing issues. At this visit the hearing tests will be explained and a recommendation will be made with the patient to resolve any issues identified.
